Grand Opening: Aerial Tram and Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU)

Portland, Oregon

1/19/2007

The Capstone installation in the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) building includes five 60kW integrated Combined Heat & Power (ICHP) units with Copeland compressors, operating on natural gas.  The units provide hot water for the buildings' heating systems, and 300kW of electrical power.  The design and installation were a joint effort with Interface Engineering, Siemens Building Automation, and E.C. Company.  The project has been a success, and all 5 microturbines are up and running successfully.

In February 2007, the U.S. Green Building Council gave this building its coveted platinum LEED certification.  LEED, short for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a system that rates buildings based on their overall systainability (when evaluating buildings, the council considers everything from materials used to air quality and energy efficiency.)
